Hello,

I have followed the instructions on the bleepingcomputer site in regards to working rkill.

The instructions stated that AntiVirus Live will stop rkill ("The black box") from appearing, and that a trick around this is simply open rkill again with the warning showing. I have done this, however the black box again dissappears.

Im unsure as to whether or not rkill is still working in the background? From what ive seen, on my desktop since trying to open rkill numerous times, files have appeared on my desktop, being: pev.exe; ncmd.cfxxe, and rkill.reg.

Im still unable to open MBAM.exe.

Help to get malwarebytes anti malware working in order to get rid of antivirus live will be much appreciated! Whether it is getting rkill to work, or through another method, help will be fantastic.

Id imagine many posts like this have passed through, and i have given a decent look for them, but cant find someone with exactly the same questions.

Thanks in advance.

I was experiencing the same as you this morning.

Below is what I found that worked perfect for me. Once able to open the task manager and closing the sysguard.exe I was able to install Rkill and then install Malwarebytes (both from my usb flash card downloaded from my clean computer). I'm running Malwarebytes on my infected laptop as I type (I'm on my desktop) :

Copied and pasted from here: http://www.softsailor.com/how-to/13501-how...oval-guide.html - posted by Shami - Read comments at the bottom.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Re-start your computer and then as fast as you can right click on the task bar (the bar at the bottom of the screen), this will open a white box with downward headings.

Click on “task Manager” and wait for this to open. Importantly this will keep open the windows task manager box!

On the “windows task manager” you will see a few headings click on “processes”

On the bottom left side of the “processes” make sure the “show processes from all users” is ticked if not tick this box.

Then under the heading “image names” look for the following “sysguard.exe” however, it may have some other letters before it say “edrsysguard” left click this once and it will be highlighted.

Then left click the “End process” and double check there is no others of that name.

Then click the main start button and go in to control panel then click on “internet options” which will open a box with the heading “internet properties” then click on “connections”.

On the bottom right, you will see “LAN settings” click this and it will open a box with the heading “local area network (LAN) setting”.

Now any boxes that have a tick, un-tick them, make sure every box is empty ! And press ok.

This will now stop all the pop up boxes!

Now log onto the internet and get anti malware.

If you cannot get onto the internet, go back to the “local area network LAN setting” and click the box “Automatically detect setting”

Do not turn off or restart your until you loaded and run the anti-malware

Wow !!! Great way to get in front of this virus. I noticed myself that it was a little slow to start. This really did the trick. I was able to get taskmanager to run and stay running, then ran rkill.scr and I was in good shape from there.

Hey, thanks for the help. That should definately help people who had the same troubles as me.

I acually figured the problem as soon as i posted that on the forum:

I simply shut down my laptop, restrted it again, then ran rkill as fast as i could. It did its job: the bleep of a virus didnt start up, and i was able to download malwarebytes and subsequently scan my comp to get rid of it.

Thanks for your help regardless, and i think many would agree thank goodness for this site!

cheers

Thanks to Kiwi 321 for asking Exactly my question and to projected for the work around and of course Grinler for the solution. Incidentally,I hit Ctrl+Alt+ Del the moment Windows 7 started and brought up the Task Manager that way.I enede the process that was all numbers as soon as I saw it and that worked. You know rkill has done its job when you see the notepad come up

So, now we should.
Rerun MBAM (MalwareBytes) like this:

Open MBAM in normal mode and click Update tab, select Check for Updates, when done
click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

Follow that with an onlone scan.

Please perform a scan with Eset Online Antiivirus Scanner.
This scan requires Internet Explorer to work. Vista/Windows 7 users need to run Internet Explorer as Administrator.
To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run As Administrator from the context menu.
  • Click the green Posted Image button.
  • Read the End User License Agreement and check the box:
  • Check Posted Image.
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Check Remove found threats and Scan potentially unwanted applications. (If given the option, choose "Quarantine" instead of delete.)
  • Click the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer.
  • If offered the option to get information or buy software at any point, just close the window.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and do NOT use the computer while the scan is running. Keep all other programs and windows closed.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop as ESETScan.txt.
  • Push the Posted Image button, then Finish.
  • Copy and paste the contents of ESETScan.txt in your next reply.
Note: A log.txt file will also be created and automatically saved in the C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\ folder.
If you did not save the ESETScan log, click Posted Image > Run..., then type or copy and paste everything in the code box below into the Open dialogue box:

C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Click Ok and the scan results will open in Notepad.
  • Copy and paste the contents of log.txt in your next reply.
-- Some online scanners will detect existing anti-virus software and refuse to cooperate. You may have to disable the real-time protection components of your existing anti-virus and try running the scan again. If you do this, remember to turn them back on after you are finished.

NOTE: In some instances if no malware is found there will be no log produced.
