Just a quick question. I have a 6-7 year old Dell Deminison 4400 desktop that quit working on me overnight. No reason that I can tell. The power supply seems to be working..I'm still getting lights on the mother board and on the main power button...matter of fact , the power button acts normal, It goes on and off like normal, but there is no response from the hard drive.
Now I realize this could be many things. My question is could the power supply be working half way, anotherwords could it supplying power to the motherboard and not the hard drive . I know that the power to the hard drive is controlled through the motherboard , has anyone ever seen or heard of a problem like that with a power supply?
Well I think I am going to go have the power supply tested tomorrow that should tell me more. Has anyone else ever had a pc just die overnight?
Does this sound like a power problem, or does it sound more like a processor, or motherboard problem? If you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them.

yes I have, and normally, its either a power supply or motherboard, though it could also be the hard drive. does it make any beeps when you try to boot it up? and yes sometimes, the PSU even though its failed, is still supplying small ammounts of power to the computer. I would also check the capacitors on the motherboard and make sure there are no damaged, bulging, or leaking capacitors, and check the motherboard circuits for fry marks.
