windows xp 32bit or 64bit

I'm planning to install windows again since my hard drive died of vista and i'm wondering whether 32 bit or 64 bit would work better with my specs in terms of watching movies, playing games, extracting etc (or maybe 32 bit or 64 bit doesnt do that...)

I have a Gateway fx6800
Radeon ATI 4850
Intei i7 2.66 GHz processor
9 GB ram ddr3

Only a 64bit OS will take advantage of 9GB of RAM.

Pleased to have been a Microsoft MVP (Windows Desktop Experience) 2007/8, 2008/9

However, Win XP 64-bit isn't quite popular, more so w.r.t software compatibility.

If not Vista, why not give Windows 7 a try?

True. With the OP mentioning Vista, I hadn't noticed the topic is in the XP forum.

With that system spec, I think it would be a pity not to take advantage of Windows 7.
