I had reason recently to go into System Restore only to find there are no restore points at all. I can click on undo last restore point but that is it. I tried creating one but it vanished.
Operating system is XP professional windows internet explorer 8, Pentium 4CPU 2.80Ghz 504mb ram,
service pack 3. When i click to go onto a restore point this is the message i get < >
There are no restore points created yet for this day. To restore immediately, pick another day and restore point, and then try again.
Can anyone tell me what i have done or not done for this to happen and before you ask yes restore is switched on lol
Many thanks

Try switching if off...run chkdsk /, reboot...turn it on after dust settles.
It may be damaged/missing, etc.
FWIW: Troubleshooting, System Restore fails to create an automatic restore point - http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srauto.html

WEll hamluis i tried the chkdsk and i tried everything going on the link you supplied to try and sort it but no luck. From everything i did it appears that CMD/K is missing as is SR.inf. I have tried to fid it and reinstall but it wont work. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks

Hmmm...Start/Run...type cmd /k net start works on my system. I get a listing of running services in alphabetical order.
Do you not get this command to work?
I have no idea what you are referring to...when you mention SR.inf.

When i type that in it comes up with the error msg to say it cannot find the file.
The SR.inf came about when i followed the links in the link you supplied see following page http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srauto.html and basically i ended up being told to right click on the file to install it. I tried doing so (dont ask me how i found it ) but it wasnt available. I think i found the relevant file by doing search with SR/inf. Followed so many links i dont know where it led sorry.

Perhaps this (or similar) is the link: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairsr.htm.
I don't really know what else to suggest. Since I don't use it, I don't have any experience with problems surrounding it.
