That isn't Combofix, it only opens some text telling you it isn't available right now.

I too had an infected client yesterday that could have used Combofix. I had a 2 week old copy laying around, but didn't run it because of what BleepingComputer recommended. This site has never let me down, I'd give them 3 thumbs up......if I had a third thumb!

1. Note that the file size is wrong with this file.

2. No matter what anyone thinks, sUBs is doing the right thing, plus it is his program, so he has every right to pull it. We are all inconvenienced because we do not have ComboFix to help us, but where would we be if sUBs never developed it? And who would be the one complaining the loudest if a computer he was working on would not restart? We need to support the good guys, and remember who the real bad guys are. Quit the infighting and don't let the bastards win!

People never cease to amaze me how low they will go.

Great work as always Grinler and sUBs. The internet would be in a lot worse shape without either of you. Keep up the good work. thumbup2.gif

hey guys. thanks for all your help with CF over the years. Sorry about the bum who hosted the file. Although I can understand he probably had good intentions at first, he should have taken it down the first time you asked politely.

good luck sUBs and let us know what we can do to help.

I just want to say that I really love the tool, and I as a technician and avid supporter of the tool, greatly appreciate the responsibility of taking the tool down until the issue was resolved. While it was slightly inconveniencing not having the tool there today, it was well worth the time and effort not having to reinstall multiple computers. Plus it gives me great peace of mind knowing that the tool is functioning properly and that the author cares enough to ensure that no unnecessary damage is done. Thanks so much for all that you do in the battle against malware.

A perfect statement of my feelings on the matter too, and since we all love to RESPONSIBLY save time... I will hope that Dustin won't mind me sharing and saying

DITTO!

BTW... that banning of IP's works both ways

Agreed, ten-fold over. Not only does sUBs devote his heart and soul to the development of ComboFix, he also spends countless hours not only advising members of the community but also teaching us so very much. He truly lives the principle, "Do no harm."

What I wonder, however, is whether any of the techs who use ComboFix every day in their business cleaning their paying customers computers ever consider making a donation. If not, well, shame on each and every one of you. (The link is on the "A guide and tutorial on using ComboFix" page.)

Maybe this is off topic, moderating team, feel free to delete this post in that case....

I certainly don't want to start the discussion here about the run of Combofix, but maybe its a good idea to read/consider the following.... (<-- I had my share of unbootable computers after Combofix was run....)

QUOTE
...any of the techs who use ComboFix every day in their business cleaning their paying customers computers ...

Please note: ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for unsupervised use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.

Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Nicely done Grinler, and thanks to sUBs who takes care with Combofix, to ensure that those of us who do use it as helpers know it is always pulled if needed to fix and usually quite fast. It is a great tool, but for those like the guy who blogged about/hosted it it shows that others do not understand it, and care not about what problems they may cause. Nor care about what is someone else's hard work.
Thanks Grinler and sUBs for handling this guy so well. We love you guys for all you do to help us help others beat malware.

This is legit. This is, though, a beta still. The bug has been fixed but use at your own risk smile.gif

Thank you everyone for your warm support. I am just the BleepingComputer lackey smile.gif It's sUBs brilliance for creating this useful tool. Hats off to him.

Way to go Lawrence. sUbs did the right thing. I did encounter the no-boot issue. That is a risk we take when working with highly infected machines. While it wasn't that difficult for us to resolve, I can just imagine the problems encountered by the average user.

Many thanks guys for the work you do. Anxiously looking forward to it being available.
