BleepingComputer.com: Keyboard not working correctly

About 3 months ago, the keyboard that came with my Dell Dimension B110 started acting funny. It would randomly stop working depending on how you moved it. You see, my computer desk has no keyboard tray since it got broken off a long time ago. So when we weren't using the keyboard, we would put it down on the floor by standing it up on its side (leaning it up against the inside of the desk). Whenever I would do this with the keyboard, it would just stop working. Then I decided to buy a new keyboard. The new keyboard worked fine for the past 3 months (IOW I could put it down and pick it up without having it turn off) and now the new keyboard is doing the same thing that the old one was and it won't turn back on unless I unplug the keyboard from the desktop and then hit the "num lock" key after the keyboard lights flash on and off. What is wrong with my keyboard/computer? How can I fix it?

ps2 or usb keyboard?

btw I am using a b110 right now with the original ps2 keyboard. IT is a pretty generic keyboard.

Is there any stress on the cable at the socket when it is in he usual resting spot?

Its a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. When the keyboard is in its resting position, there is no stress on the connections/wires. However, I've noticed that when my mother uses the computer, she sometimes gets the keyboard cord twisted around itself and I have to untwist the cord multiple times during the week (maybe 3 times per week). So I think this may have caused the problem.

Just today the keyboard stopped working completely and the mouse was working fine. Then I unplugged the mouse and tried putting the keyboard in the mouse USB port and it didn't work, but when I put the mouse back into its own port, it didn't work either. So neither were working and then I restarted the computer and they both started working again which is how I can type this now.

I contacted Best Buy to ask if they sold PS2 keyboards/mice but they didn't have any of those. (My PC has a PS2 connection area for a keyboard and a mouse.

let me know that what is the specification of your OS... either you are using keyboard in USB or in serial port? besides any of this problem the driver of you keyboard may not working properly.... consider all the aspect and then go ahead..

Also alot of USB keyboards and Mice come with USB to PS2 adapters (including the cheapies from walmart) I have several laying around in case I come across an older PC that doesn't recognize USB in the bios.
