BleepingComputer.com: Installing a downloaded program problem

Hi, I just downloaded Limewire for Linux and I am having problems getting it to install. After I download the file, I went to the file, right click on it and clicked on the Gdebi package installer. After a while it comes up with a message that says, "Only one software management tool is allowed to run at the same time. Please close the other application eg. 'Update Manager', 'Aptitude' or 'Synaptic' first. I'm not running any other programs that I know of. How can I close these other programs if they are running? And how can I tell what is running in background? This problem came up with some other applications that I was trying to install too. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can see what's running by first going to System > Administration > System Monitor. Once it opens, click on the Processes tab. Afterwards, you should see all the running processes. From here you can choose the interfering process and end it by either right-clicking or simply hitting the End Process button.

EDIT: The above is assuming that you are using Ubuntu or something similar.

Yes I am using Ubuntu 9.10. Ok I got the problem fixed, and I installed Limewire, but it don't do anything when I click on it. If anyone has used this program on Ubuntu, then let me know. Other wise I might try another program for peer to peer.

You need Java installed. Type the following in the terminal window:

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin

Enter the password and answer Yes to any prompts.
