Hello,

I just finished reading over 300 posts on CNet Community Newsletters about attacks on computers via nefarious pop-ups and find myself here to set up the ground work should I or members of the family find ourselves in need of help. A few people who wrote into those posts said it's not a matter whether you'll be a victim, but when.

I'm setting up a folder called the Combat Zone and arming it with the tools I may need.

Just a word to say "hello".

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Please take the time, to browse the New User Orientation forum, to help familiarize yourself with how the board works.

Also, don't forget to check out the Tutorials.
There's a lot of very useful information, in there.

Sounds like a good idea
Just remember things change between now and later
Be sure to update any tool when you go to use it

why won't my laptop work?

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits

Having a layered protection of applications is a start, but being cautious about where you browse on the web is almost as important.
Rely on BC to provide help if you, despite everything, become infected.
Welcome to BC!
