i can't imagine malwarebytes using a file that would be shared with your audio but what the heck, re-install malwarebytes and see if it works. you could also try system restore to a point after the virus removal and before the malwarebytes removal.

Ugh I know right? I tried reinstalling ,Malwarebytes, and no luck. I think I major messed everything up when I deleted all the items in the quarantine list. That's when my sound problems happened. Also unfortunately I don't have a restore point before I deleted the quarantine list.

That's why I was wondering if doing a system repair would solve my issues? I'm even ready to completely start everything over again, since I already have all my files backed up. I have my windows re installation CD (not sure if this is the same as having the original CD, but this is what came with my computer) I also have the CD for all my drivers and too. I seriously think my system is messed up, everything is insanely slower than ever. I have to click on things like eight times for them to run.

I'm really at a loss on what to do. I'm just so disappointed because my computer has been running great for so long. I guess it really does take just one virus to mess everything up

sad but true. if it were me i would do the re-install (if everything is backed up). i usually end up with a faster working machine in the end after getting rid of a bunch of unneeded stuff. sort of like cleaning out the garage.

Yeah I'm seriously thinking about it. But I'm not really good with serious stuff like this so I'm going to try and find a tutorial to guide me through it. Also I noticed my re installation cd says Operating System on it. That's the correct one right? I don't have any other cd like that, so I'm assuming it's right.

sounds like the right disk. you could put it in and boot to see what it does. it will not install anything with out some user input and there should be a way to exit without installing. from what i have heard about dell install disks, if it does not match the machine it will not install anyways. good luck and if you run into problems with the install just call on bleepingcomputer.

have you update your adobe flash player to the latest version? if your sound card the earphone has no problem, you'd better check the flash player.

Well, it's been a while but I finally reformatted my computer today, and the good news is my sound is back! The bad news, I can't connect to the internet to get my service pack and windows update. I installed all my drivers too. Also it looks like my graphics took a dive, I'm not sure why that happened. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

check device manager for name of your network adapter. thats right click My Computer-->Properties-->hardware tab-->device manager button.
download and install drivers from http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...tid=&impid=

I've already downloaded the drivers, but I can't seem to install intel proset II NIC. I follow the instruction but the only network 1349 adapter is available and it won't allow me to add intel proset II. Also I have a yellow mark on my ethernet controller in device manager.

Should I call my internet service provider? Maybe they can help me?

what error message do you get when installing ? are you sure you have the intel nic? maybe you need the broadcom driver.

Yeah the intel NIC is what's on my drivers CD.

Well, when I follow the instructions to install the NIC, there's a part where I have to select Have Disk and then open the driver folder. Whenever I do that I get an error telling me there is no system information for that hardware.

I also installed the broadcom drivers too but still no luck. I get an error telling me they're not installed. I think I'll have to call Dell, but they'll probably charge me. Grrr. Plus I really need to connect to the net so I can get updates and service packs, my windows XP was super old! I feel like I went back in time like 7 years.

Maybe I should make another thread for this topic since it's no longer a sound issue anymore.

if you are trying to get windows to install by pointing to the driver folder(have disk) that may be the problem. try running the driver installation from the driver cd by d-clicking setup program on cd and let that program install it.
you could also try downloading the intel driver from dell site as it will automatically extract and run the setup program,

Yep that's what the instructions tell me, I'm still not exactly clear how to install the diver form the CD though. I'll look for the setup thing, the only option I've been seeing is to extract into the computer and then windows sets it up. But for my nic windows gave me a popup with instructions and it told me to do the have disk option.

Also I made another thread for this problem, since it's no longer a sound problem:
