Hello everyone. I have an older PC running Xubuntu 9.10 with the XFCE GUI. The PC has these specs:
Celeron 2.4GHZ
768MB Ram
40GB HDD
intergrated audio, video, Lan
I can see the blue Xubuntu screen, so I click on my user name. I them type my password. The scren has an animation then goes black, then white, then back to the login screen. I am a Linux newbie. What is going on? I installed Xubuntu from the 9.10 alternitive 32bit edition that I downloaded from the Xubuntu site and burned.

Is Xubuntu installed or is this from a LiveCD?
I have not used Xubuntu so this might not work.
At the login screen look for a button named "Session"
Change the session to "console". Login with username/password.
You should be in a black screen with a command prompt.
Type: startx
Record any errors and post back.
The issue is most likely caused by an incorrect video driver.

In "sesson" I can choose between two listings of XFCE and one of Xterm. I will try Xterm and enter username and password then type startx and see what I get. I shall return.
