the program "pfbackup" works in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 98 Second Edition; Windows ME; Windows Vista; Windows XP.


Can anyone here confirm that it will work in Windows 7 (64)?

Either nobody here uses Outlook 2007

or nobody is backing it up with pfbackup?

I'm using it -- and this is an interesting question for me for several reasons.

I'm backing up Outlook 2003 files (used on an XP system) twice per week. I've got an older machine that eventually is going to die, so I'm already anticipating a move to another machine. After backup, I copy all files to a portable hard drive. I've already got another system with Windows 7 and Office 2007 on it, but I haven't configured Outlook for my email on that one since I'm still using the 2003 Outlook machine.

So, when time comes for me to transfer my backup (this is all of my contacts and saved emails from a volunteer organization I work with as well as personal stuff) from the 2003 files to 2007 files, will this work? I'd love to know.

Yes, it should.

Unless you are using Windows 7, in which case I've posed my question.


BTW - if you simply copy your Outlook.pst file to a thumb drive and then to your new system (after you have Outlook 2007 installed), all of your email, contacts, etc. will be moved. This is what I did to move the data from my Vista PC to the Win 7 installation. You will need to reset your email accounts manually, however.

However, it wouldn't hurt anything for you to try pfbackup to "restore" the files to your new system now so that you'll know for sure whether it works or not.

You presently have a very small "default" Outlook.pst file on that 2007 installation, so you could first re-name it to, say, "outlookoriginal.pst" to keep it intact, before you try bringing over the pfbackup data. This way you'll be able to easily go back to a blank file if anything goes wrong and you'll be OK to try "plan B" which would be the copy method I used.



I'm just looking for confirmation that pfbackup will run on Win 7.

Thanks for the info.

And of course I'll want to know if it runs on Win 7, too, because once I make the transition, I'll be needing to back up my files then just like I do now.

I'll be watching to see if you get feedback one way or the other.

It doesn't look like the tool is supported with Windows 7. I will try to research this some more for you.
