It a dell 2200 inspiron laptop. I loaded win XP from an OEM disk, which came with the laptop. Everything was fine until yesterday when I booted the computer up. It asks me to activate windows each time I log on, why is this? Do I just put in the same key that I entered when I loaded XP the first time? Funny thing is, even though I see the prompt to activate windows, when I go to start, run and type msoobe oobe /a, it says windows is already activated.

Do I need to activate windows, or what do I need to do to make that reminder go away?

Microsoft says, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312295.

The above procedures involve editing the registry.

Beginners Guides The Registry Backups, Repairs, and Protection - PCSTATS.com - http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?art...=263&page=4

Before taking steps to do such, you are advised to back up your registry.

A good tool for doing such is ERUNT Registry Backup Tool - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html .
