hello, ive been playing an online game for a while now, and ever since ive started, ive gotten ping spikes. at first i thought it was my computer, but someone told me to switch to a wired network, and i asked if he meant my wireless router, and said yes.. SO

i currently have a wrt54g linksys wireless-g router, that is used by my desktop, my sisters laptop, and my parents laptop.

as i suck with computers, and dont know much about this kinda stuff, i have a few questions.

-can i make a wired network, and if so, how
-does a wired network affect the 2 laptops
-do i need a different kind of router
-am i screwed lol?

Hello webbie,

Your Linksys WRT54G router comes with a 4-port ethernet switch built into it. This would be as simple as plugging your desktop's NIC card into one of those 4 ports with a Cat 5E (ethernet) cable (wired). You can leave the other 2 laptops configured the way they are, which is through wireless. This shouldn't have any effect on them as long as you aren't uploading or downloading extremely large files and eating up all the bandwith from your ISP.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Keith
