i have vista. and when on the net it will randomly decide to turn off. no warning, nofin

Does the screen go black but the other lights stay on?
Does wiggling the power jack show the charging light on?
Will it boot from battery?
Does it feel excessively warm at any one spot on the underside of the laptop?
Are the fans running loudly right before it quits?
What is the laptop brand and model. There are a lot of known issues with some specific laptops and series.
There are also both hardware and software reasons this can happen.
