I am running Windows Vista v. 6.0 Service Pack 2 on my laptop. HP Pavillion dv9000. When I boot up, it takes more than two minutes to fully boot up. Can the Avast! be slowing it down that much? I have disabled everything that I do not need to boot with and it did not affect it one bit.

Have you disabled the startup items in msconfig ?
If life is not an option then why are we not given the option in the first place !

Hi Cbm550,
My first thought was that it needed more RAM. Of the original gig, 1/3 of
it was being reserved for video memory. It had two 512mb sodimms in it, so I
removed one and added an additional gig, bringing me to 1.5 gigs of RAM.
Thanks for that have a nice day.

No just disable the apps you think maybe causing the problems i:e your most recent apps, you can disable all the apps but you may have difficulty in booting because some are needed for the boot process !

hi,,,just an added point to edd's posts,,, i googled the spec of the pc,,,,, it says only 512mb of ram is installed while running a vista os,,,,, if so then this is way under spec as regards ram,,,, to run vista the sweet spot as regards ram is 2gb,,,, not to say it cant run with less, because clearly it does, but just not very quickly,,,, i would consider upgrading the ram to see more gains,,,, i think this is what post 3 was getting at,,, and as for post 4,,, i aint got a clue there lol
good luck.
good luck.

I did not state at first, but it came with 3bg of RAM. I disabled all of the startup apps and it does boot quicker, but not as quick as when I first got it. Shouldn't it be quicker than new if everything is disabled in that list?
