Need Advise

Mobo w/ CPU - Asus Crosshair III Formula w/ Phenom II Black 965

CPU Cooler CM V8

RAM - OCZ PC3 1333 Mhz Plat CL7 3GB x 2

GPU Powercolor HD5850 1GB DDR5

Chassis - CM HAF 922

Hard Disk Drive - Western Digital 1.5 TB 32MB (Caviar)

Power Supply Unit - Corsair HX Modular 850w

ODD - Samsung S223 22x DVD+-RW (SATA)

OS - Win Home Prem 7 - 189 (get Win 7 64 bit edition)



Need advise on the above rig if its about up-to-date, compatible and if its recommended. Also i would like to ask if the cpu cooler CM v8 is compatible with AM3 motherboard? Thank you for taking time off to read.

I think the CPU cooler should fit just fine but install the RAM first, just in case. Most would advise against getting a single large HDD.

Yes its gonna be a single HHD but its gonna be partition into two. C=500 D=1000

Also, any advise on the choosen graphics cards from the ATI range? Or should i go for GPU Powercolor HD4890 PCS+ 1GB DDR5 x 2? Or Crossfire? HDMI is a must. Thank you.

My recommendation would be either a Radeon HD 5770 or Radeon HD 5850.

The 5 series cards have lower power consumption and DirectX 11 support.

What he meant is that it would be wiser to have a 500GBX2 setup for a total capacity of 1TB (or a 1TB + 500GB=1.5TB setup), just in case one of them conks out.

As for the GFX card, go with the HD 5850.

Last but not least, any recommendations of 120mm fans? Which have faster RPM for better cooling rate + durable. LED ones would be a bonus but not a must. Intending to fit extras in the HAF 932.

1. CL - CAS Latency

Quote

CL 8 and 9 stand for the CAS latency. It's the delay time(in clock cycles) between when a memory controller tells the RAM to access data in a particular section of the RAM and when the data is actually sent.

Lower latency is better.

So, CL8 > CL9 :thumbsup:

2. For case fans, you should consider the following:

Airflow - Value in CFM - Higher the better
Noise Level - Value in dBa - Lower the better
Fan Speed - Value in RPM - Higher the better

This might suit the HAF 922 well: Rosewill 120mm RED LED

Or look at other options: 120mm Fans

One more RAM question:

Looking into 6G to 8G amount of RAM-

PC3 10600/1333 Kingston CL9
vs
PC3 12800/1600 Kingston CL8

How much of a difference are we talking about here? Thanks in advance! :thumbsup:

The second option will be marginally faster.

Check out their QVL, to see what's fully supported : C3 QVL
