Not sure if this is the right forum for my queston.
I have a couple of older drives that have Win 2000 on them. When I go into Disk Management, It pops up a "Welcome to Initialize & Convert Disks Wizard" window. What I need to know is if I do Initialize and convert these drives will I lose all data/files on these drives? I Do Not want to lose all of this data/files. Does this Wizard enable me to use these drives normally on my Win XP Pro system after the Initializing & conversion? Thanks for any help received.

What file system is used on these drives from the Win2K era? It should be NTFS...XP uses NTFS.
There's no logical reason (IMO) that the wizard should appear...unless the drives/file system are going/have gone bad.
When the wizard pops up...it's telling you that it sees a blank, unformatted drive, as I understand it...or a drive with a file system which Windows is not familiar with.
