RAM Maximum per Module for a Dell Inspiron 1100

I am trying to buy some RAM for a Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop. On the crucial website it says that each slot shouldn't exceed 512 MB of RAM. It says there is only a maximum of 1 GB of RAM for this system. I wanted to get 1 GB of Crucial RAM for $32. The only issue is that the RAM comes in a 1GB Module. If I was to buy two 512 MB Modules the price wold be around $15-20 more expensive. Does it really matter if I put in a larger RAM module than what Crucial says the system should use. Any Thoughts would be appreciated.

it may in fact. the one gigabyte modules use denser memory modules, and the computer may not be able to read them. there is a small chance that the hardware will not recognize more then 1 gig total, and density doesn't matter, but not a high one, I would recomend spending the extra on the 2 512mb modules. depending on the type of memory, it may perform better that way anyway.

I will go ahead and buy two 512 MB RAM Modules. I am a little confused on the exact RAM module to get for my Inspiron 1100. On the Crucial website it says that this system should have PC 2700, 200 Pins and this Ram is a good price at

I have the feeling that this system could be compatible with PC2100 and found at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145482

Some of the people that wrote reviews for the PC 2700 said that they should have bought the PC 2100 RAM Module. Also people that wrote reviews after buying the PC 2100 said they had Inspiron 1100 Laptops. Hopefully this hasn't confused everyone. Just want to be sure before I purchase the RAM. Thanks

The RAM module should meet the following specifications:

Your link was spot on and that was the RAM that I suspected I needed. I purchased some Corsair PC 2100 from Newegg.com
