Also as crazy as this sounds, next step for troubleshooting offered by apple, because they're not too sure on what's causing this, actually a common issue.... they say to use msconfig and go to startup and disable everthing that is not hid from clicking "hide all microsoft services"

Be VERY careful disabling services using msconfig. msconfig was created to be used as a diagnostic tool only, and not as a permanent fix for problems. Permanently disabling services using msconfig may cause issues.

This is very true, thank you for pointing that out Blind, also after you disabled everything, and if the install works, obviously you will want to re-enable everything again so u can take full advantage of your programs.

Bad news. It didn't work. Can it be causing problems due to the computer I have? A Vista. I remember I read somewhere that it could cause problems if you are having a Vista 32 bit

I know this is months later but we ran into the same problem just yesterday and I was able to fix it. How nice of Apple to correct their installation problems in a reasonable amount of time (NOT!) . . .
Here is a link to where I found the info to fix it: http://securitycenterblog.shavlik.com/2009...-support-error/
Also, I had to uninstall Quicktime in Safe Mode, then reinstall the latest version to get Itunes to run.
<sigh>
What a PITB, but it works now!

Clear out all the Apple directories as well:
C:\Program Files\Bonjour
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
C:\Program Files\iTunes\
C:\Program Files\iPod\ Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\
C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime
C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR
(If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you will need to confirm that the following folders have been removed as well:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\ Note: Follow the additional steps at the end of this article if you receive the alert "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program" when trying to delete this folder.
C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTime
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\QuickTimeVR
AND don't forget
C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache
Apple's page forgets this one too, It's the most important one.
Restart, the re-install iTunes and Quicktime.
Worked for me
