Hello again cowboys2006. Is this the same Gateway computer we were working on before?

Have you tried resetting the CMOS as we discussed before?

When you reset the CMOS, did you return the jumper back to its original position as in the picture?

Let's test something.

Once again reset the CMOS. Put the jumper on the 2 & 3 pins for 5 seconds, then remove it.

Do not put it back on Pins 1 & 2 but try booting the computer.

What happens when you try this?

Try booting up again.

The motherboard will boot even if the battery is removed, but it will not hold the CMOS settings when the computer is turned off, so I am not suspecting the battery.

Have you had any storms lately with a large amount of lightning or possibly any power spikes?

Do you possibly have another power supply to test with?

Do you have a surge suppressor that your Gateway is plugged into?

What Model HP?
