I am not sure what section this fits into so this seems the closest match.

After doing much researching into a probelm I am having Im am 98% sure that at one time I had spy/ad-ware but that it has been removed. However, said malicious program left changes in my HOSTS file that is causing random redirets when using any search engine on any browser (specifically Safari, IE, and FF).
I did some further searching and found that HOSTS file optimizers and hijack removers do exist. However, I dont want to use some cheap ass program that does more harm than good so here is my question:
Can anyone recommend such a program or somewhere that I can get a clean HOSTS file?
BTW, im using Xp SP3
