Yes. It will launch next year. From what I have read, it is intended mostly to be used on netbooks.

The only thing I don't care for with it is that it's supposed to be cloud-based, which means your information is stored on Google servers, not your machine. If you loose internet connection you can't access your data. I haven't seen if the netbooks also have local storage or not.

I've also read where big businesses are hesitant to have their files stored off-site. That's understandable because of the sensitive nature of their files.

My expectations for Chrome OS are somewhat low.

Microsoft is an Operating System company.
It makes a decent (I know, I know...) operating system.
It makes a sub-par (IMHO) search engine.

Google is a search engine company.
It makes a great search engine.

My expectations for an OS made by a search engine company are about as high as those I have for a search engine made by an OS company.

Now, if Linus Torvalds made a search engine...

if Linus made a search engine, it would ruin the whole computer economy. People could then have a perfect OS with a perfect search engine and could find anything without fear of viruses. then of course, microsoft and google, and yahoo, etc. etc. would go bankrupt and sue all linux distributers, bringing the entire world of PCs down to nothing and leaving us with nothing but MACs. now hows that for a nightmere. Ok, not really, but it makes a great conspiracy theory, no?

Speculation is just speculation, but it can be fun.

One of my brothers uses Google Docs a lot -- it's pretty easy to make a local copy. Not much help if my FiOS goes down, but you can't stop progress! :thumbsup:
