HI, I've been using Vista Home Premium for a while now, but recently there's been a few problems. The system seems slower than when i first bought it, that is to say, it lags when I try to connect to a network, momentarily freezes when I try to shut down, and Firefox and Google Chrome keeps crashing and refuses to close. I use AVG free, but it never seems to find any problems, and I keep finding random files in my C: drive, which I am sure that I did not install or download. There's also been some problems with the games I play as well, since COD 4 suddenly started to go under horrendous lag, even on single player! ( I am also quite sure that my computer is able to handle it.)

Should I reinstall windows or something? since my internet keeps disconnecting and browsers go down with it, and Zonealarm keeps blocking random unkown things from connecting. I'm not to sure if I'm infected with malware or not, since Malwarebyte keeps crashing when I scan as well...

If you cannot run MBAM or complete a scan in normal mode, then try performing a Quick Scan in "safe mode".

Scanning with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe or normal mode will work but removal functions are not as powerful in safe mode. MBAM is designed to be at full power when malware is running so safe mode is not necessary when using it. In fact, MBAM loses some effectiveness for detection & removal when used in safe mode because the program includes a special driver which does not work in safe mode. Further, scanning in safe mode prevents some types of malware from running so it may be missed during the detection process. Additionally, there are various types of malware infections which target the safeboot keyset so booting into safe mode is not always possible. For optimal removal, normal mode is recommended so it does not limit the abilities of MBAM but sometimes there is no alternative but to do a safe mode scan. If that is the case, after completing a safe mode scan, reboot normally and try rescanning again.

Note if installing in safe mode: For the same reasons indicated above, installing MBAM in safe mode is not advised. However, we understand in some instances there may be no other choice. If that is the case, after completing a safe mode scan it is recommended to uninstall MBAM, then reinstall it in normal mode and perform another scan.
