I did a repair install of windows xp pro and sound isn't working. Did this once before and had the same problem but managed to fix it. Tried to re-install driver but didn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Go into Device Manager (Right-Click My Computer and Left-Click Properties). Pick Hardware Tab and then Device Manager button.

Remove any instances of the sound card. Reboot the computer and let it find it by itself. Have the driver handy.

If that doesn't work, there are many sound cards available for VERY reasonable prices. (I must have 5 or 6 at home myself).

Good luck.

Apparently the computer isn't recognizing that I have a sound card at all. It worked fine untill the install, and it works fine on the other hard drive I have for back up.

Does it show up in device manager at all? Are there any unknown devices with yellow exclamation marks next to them.
