BleepingComputer.com: I am infected Antivirus Plus, Vundo; I need help Please!

Greetings!


This is my first post on this website and my last resort. Spent days and hours trying to get rid of those nasty critters on my computer, with some progress but still infected. Here is my computer information and what I believe to be some of the issues:

HP running on Windows XP Pro.
Installed are: Mc Afee, StopZilla, HijackThis
I can NOT dowload Malawarebytes
Hijack This Log shows: Antivirus System Pro, Random Dll's that i recognize as corrupted files
While online I will get pop ups with advertisement
Google redirects to other websites
My desktop background/wall paper will not stay and replaced by a black background
Vundo and And some Parts of Antivirus Pro will in someway restore it self after the computer is restarted
Computer will freeze and run extremely slow....

I hope this helps someone get an idea for what I may need. Please let me know what other information will be useful.

I was working on a computer last night with the same issue. I tried to install Malwarebytes, it appeared to have installed but then would not run. I couldn't get SUPERAntiSpyware to install either. In my experience I have found that this usually indicates something is running which is preventing the use of these programs. What I normally do is use Rkill to stop the malware processes that start when the computer comes on. Then I run the Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware. Here are some DL links for the Rkill....

Once you get it downlaoded double click to launch it (With Vista you need to right click and select run as adminstrator). You should see a little black window open and then close. If you see that box then it worked. If you don't see the black box then delete the file and use another downlaod link and repeat the steps.

Once it runs you should be able to run Malwarebytes and/or SUPERAntiSpyware.

Thanks for the reply; my issue is that I am unable to run Malawarebytes after installing; i have tried renaming the file, and changing the extension, but neither of them work. I also have already downloaded rkill as azfreetech indicated and I still was unable to run the program due to "Code 2..... the system cannont find the file specified" error message.


Please advice....

Hi Rosie. Sorry you have troubles. We will try a few things.
1. Uninstall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
2. Restart your computer (very important).
3. Download and run this utility. Mbam clean
4. It will ask to restart your computer (please allow it to).

Please download Rkill by Grinler and save it to your desktop.

• Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  
• If using Vista, right-click on it and Run As Administrator.
  
• A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  
• If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  
• If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
  
• If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

You will need to run the application again if rebooting the computer occurs along the way.

5. After the computer restarts, install the latest version from here. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php
Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent.
Note: If using Free version, ignore the part about putting in your license key and activating.
Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration.
Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray and run a Quick Scan and post that log.


Hopefully that worked if so Run these (ATF & SAS) next.
If NOT .. rerun Rkill then SAS right away.
Next run ATF and SAS:
Note.. SAS doesn't open the registry hives for other user accounts on the system, so scans should be done from each user account.

Note: On Vista, "Windows Temp" is disabled. To empty "Windows Temp" ATF-Cleaner must be "Run as an Administrator".

From your regular user account..
Download Attribune's ATF Cleaner and then SUPERAntiSpyware , Free Home Version. Save both to desktop ..
DO NOT run yet.
Open SUPER from icon and install and Update it
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program. DO NOT run yet.

Now reboot into Safe Mode: How to enter safe mode(XP)
Using the F8 Method
Restart your computer.
When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox or Opera browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

NOW Scan with SUPER
Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.
Click OK on the summary screen to quarantine all found items.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.

To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log.
A text file will open in your default text editor.
Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
Click Close to exit the program.

ome rootkits can terminate your security tools by changing the permissions on targeted programs so that they cannot run or complete scans. Further investigation is required to determine if this is the case with the issues you have described.

Please download Win32kDiag.exe by AD and save it to your desktop.

• This tool will create a diagnostic report for me to review.
  
• Double-click on Win32kDiag.exe to run and let it finish.
  
• When it states Finished! Press any key to exit..., press any key on your keyboard to close the program.
  
• A file called Win32kDiag.txt should be created on your Desktop.
  
• Open that file in Notepad, then copy and paste the entire contents starting with Running from... to Finished!) in your next reply.

Then go to > Run..., and copy and paste this command into the open box: cmd
press OK.
At the command prompt C:\>, copy and paste the following command and press Enter:

DIR /a/s %windir%\scecli.dll %windir%\netlogon.dll %windir%\eventlog.dll >Log.txt & START notepad Log.txt

A file called log.txt should be created on your Desktop and open in Notepad.

I renamed it, tried to launch it before it finished installing it gave me the following error message:
