ok so I currently own an HP a1640n and I seriously need to upgrade my processor, its wayyyy to slow. I was wondering would thic CPU work?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-091-_-Product

Now on the HP website it listed processors that are supported by my motherboard however... could it be outdated?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...product=3245028

If you think there are better than deals than this please let me know

Thanks!

The HP specs do not include the Wolfdale core that you have picked out on Newegg.

Socket: 775
Supports the following processors:
Intel Core Duo E6x00 with Dual Core technology (Conroe core)
Pentium D 9x0 series Dual Core (Presler)
Pentium D 8xx series (Smithfield)
Pentium 4 6x1 series (Cedar Mill core)
Pentium 4 6xx series (Prescott core)
Pentium 4 5xx series (Prescott core)
Pentium 4 LGA-775 HT (Prescott core)

The fastest Prescott I could find is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...6-099-_-Product

You may also want to check your amount of memory and your free space on your hard drive.

I will caution you that it is not guaranteed that your board will support every 5xx series Prescott core Pentium 4 processor. You may need to upgrade your bios on your motherboard before trying the installation of any other processor than what came with your HP computer.

Hope this helps,

Well, I found a BIOS update for it, but it still doesn't list additional CPU support. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...4173&os=228

EDIT: I found this: http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=22212

So the processors listed on your list should work?

The processors listed on the HP site stating what processors are supported should work in your computer. Yes.
