I have a problem that is driving me wacko.

I am working on a friends computer. It can connect to his homepage, yahoo.com, but no other pages. If I drop to a command prompt I can ping yahoo, but no other sites.

Anyone seen this before? I have always seen that you cannot connect to the internet at all not selective sites.

Now the particulars.....
Win XP home - SP 3
512 Mb ram
I upgraded him to IE 8

I connected to the internet with AVG Antivirus to install and to Microsoft to get the updates for his system. But I cannot type Microsoft.com into IE and go there.

Dell comp if that helps.

If any more info needed please let me know.

Thanks for looking!
Jim

Have you tried resetting the browser back to defaults? Are you able to ping any websites?
