Cooling ADSL modem Can't hurt and it's free

I was just sitting in the good old V.F.W having a few J/D and starting talking to a man who sold touch screen computer cash registers and this idea hit me. As computer nuts we cool every thing the best we can with the money we have. As far as I know the ethernet modem is never cooled. Why not? Should I some how add a fan; no. Water cooled would be a bit much. Measured the temp with a infrared thermometer 36.2 c. with the modem sitting on the desk. Then I measured the temp of the out fan on the back of the case 22.7c. With a little rigging I have the cool air blowing from the out fan in the case into the bottom of the modem. Modem themp is now 22.8c. I don't know how to tell if it helps but it can't hurt. :thumbsup:

Normally, If it is out in a semi-open space, it would be fine
The problem would come if you have in jammed in a cabinet with a buch of junk piled on it to impede airflow
Then a fan could be useful in increasing the life expectancy

I have a TV in a totally enclosed cabinet
I have 2 fans in it
Anything electronic will create heat and to get longer life, the cooler the better
I kept getting called out on this one 2000# washing machine. The mfg. gave up on it
I added a couple of cabinet fans and problem solved

This is the last test I did and the only thing I did was cool the modem.

Thanks for sharing.
I know my router gets warm after a while and too think those things run 24/7.
Altough theres really no room to add a cooling fan to this model.

Your welcome, I just put my modem where the rear case fan blows out on it.

i guess that every electronic device needs some good ventilation. but exposing them on a cooling fan is a ++plus. ;-)

I have all my stuff in the basement. In the winter it gets cold, wich is good, but in the summer it gets warm. Not exactly excellent...
