My computer has been infected by a virus which seems to be linked with upgrading from AVG 8.5 to 9.0 Anti-Virus Free Edition.
The AVG forum has been useful, but generally responses tend to suggest fixes related to a limited number of known issues.
(Probably a reasonable approach in most cases).
Came across this site via Google and was impressed by the constructive tenacity in following up what seems to be the same infection.
A nasty infection

I did this, but there were no replies. Perfectly understandable for such a popular site as this - all those malicious virus writers seem to be keeping you very busy.
As it turns out, I was able to track down the infections after following advice offered to other members reporting similar problems - there is nothing new in the world! Will summarise the steps taken in the Am I Infected? Forum.
An excellent website, thanks.

why won't my laptop work?
Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around
Do not send me PMs with problems that should be posted in the forums. Keep it in the forums, so everyone benefits
