Any new "antivirus-hero"? I'm on Avira FREE...

Just making this post, to find out, if someone found a better solution, than Avira FREE.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast are both excellent choices as well.

I use Avast, which is free, and I haven't a complaint about it.

I think Avast is okay, but Avira has a much higher detection level/algorithms... that is even compared to Kaspersky.

Verdict: So, it seems, that nothing really changed these years... :thumbsup:

AntiVir is only fractionally higher than Avast in on-demand tests (AV-Comparatives) and along with more FPs this makes the difference negligible. It's true that AntiVir scores significantly higher than Avast in AV-Comparatives Proactive test with 70% to 40%. But IMHO, if you simply cannot rely on AVs for zero-day detections, no matter how good they are, because they simply miss a lot of new malware. If you take into account safe practices, behavioural blocking if you're a high risk user, perhaps Limited User Account, etc then you don't need to rely on an AV for protection against zero-day threats anyway.
