I am using an HP laptop with XP and IE8. When I am connected by wire to my DSL modem and try to access the internet, I see a message: waiting for res://ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm... and then the application times out and I get a screen that says I can't access the Internet.

If I use a wireless card on the laptop, I get on with no problem. My desktop, which connects by wire to the same modem also gets on with no problem.

This is a new problem. In the past, my laptop has gotten by wire connection to this modem. Would appreciate any help.

Have you checked all your drivers are updated and your services are in order for a full service check list go to this link http://www.blackviper.com/ and you can do a full check of all services and what they should be set at, but sounds like a driver problem to me if you seem to be be connecting ok wirelessly and your desktop connects too ! Does the modem appear in Device Manager ?
