I'm buying a new computer, i do 3d design, using 3d max i have talked to someone at dell and I'm trying to find out if I'm getting a good deal and good computer..
With max you need something good for rendering.
I don't know that much about computers..
If i can get any help that would be great..

How much are you willing to spend exactly? For $762 that isn't great, and that's to be expected when you deal with Dell -.- Would you be willing to build your own custom computer?

Do you need peripherals like a mouse etc? For $754($744 if you get the mail in rebate) you can get this which is alot better than what Dell is offering.

For 3D rendering, you're going to want a lot of memory - one gig isn't going to cut it. It depends a bit upon the operating system, but I'd guess three or four gigs would do you well.

Building you own can be very satisfying. But in the end individual parts warranties, should something break, can be a real pain. It also leaves you to do your own trouble shooting.

6 Gigs should be plenty of Ram. Where I see a slight improvement could be made is the graphics card. Possibly stay with the same card but get one with a larger amount of on-card memory. The current one has 512. For graphics intensive applications the more work that can be kept on the card (= on card memory) the faster everything will render since it does not have to be swapped off the card then back on before being displayed.

I never even realized that there is such a thing...as a 6GB RAM module .

I don't think the day will ever come when I think I need one of those ...but I've made similar statements about hard drives larger than 120GB .

To my knowledge there is`t.

The first column where it says 1 means all memory is listed as a single quantity\item.
Actually the OP is getting 2 sticks of 2 Gig & 2 sticks of 1 Gig equaling 6 Gigs.

Invoices can be a hard thing to read if the column descriptions can not be seen.
