BleepingComputer.com: laptop will not boot

Hi,

I have a Packard Bell Easynote H5315 that will not boot into windows ( OS Win XP Home Edition).

When l switch on it hangs a long time on the PB logo screen and then the following is displayed:

SiS900 PXE BootROM v1.09 Hook Int 19

CLIENT MAC ADDR (lots of numbers)

PXE_E51 No DHCP or Proxy DHCP offers were received

PXE - MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

Reboot Select proper media boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key...

After a few second it turns off!

From th logo screen l have selected F2 and looked at the BIOS, under ADVANCED - Boot devices the Hard drive is not detected, so it seems to be trying to boot up from the CD drive.

Any ideas please?

Agree with garmanma.

It also appears that it is trying to boot from the network not the CD.

Thanks, l have a 250 GB Seagate external USB hard drive.
Could l configure the Bios to boot from that if l put XP on it??

It could probably be done but performance would be very slow.

My suggestion, replace the hard drive.

Sometimes...when the CMOS battery is dead, all the CMOS functions go awry. Among the things I've seen happen is that the boot options default to a network install boot option (which you reflect), rather than booting from the hard drive.

I would check the current CMOS boot options first...then I would probably change the CMOS battery before pursuing other plans.

It would be far wiser and simpler to just buy a small hard drive which attaches to the motherboard...rather than pursuing that line of thought, IMO.

How do i check the CMOS boot options?

Boot options will appear on Boot tab.

First option should be the hard drive.

Under the boot tab l have the option:

>Boot device priority
>CD/DVD Drives

There is not an option for Hard drives.

If l select Boot device priority l can choose the first priority as hard drive but it does not state any type, model, etc...
Just says hard drive.

is there any method of including the hard drive option, or reason why it is not an option??

On the main screen of your BIOS...is a hard drive listed?

If not, I'm afraid that the post by Garmanma was right on the mark. No sign of life equals death, in my world.
