I was typing a document, saved it and closed it. When I went back to get I got this message:"In order to open this file Works needs to use a file converter, which may pose a security risk if the file you are opening is a malicious file. Choose OK to open this file if you are sure it is from a trusted trusted source."

When I click OK I get this:"Works cannot open (file name). The file may be in use by another application, the format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file may be corrupt." and then receive a blank page.

Does anyone know what this is and how I can get my doc. back. This is happening with a few docs. but not all.

Thank You

Please consider this only a suggestion as I am not sure I understand the program problem you

are having, . . as I am only familiar with word pad, etc.

but open a new file of the word processor and click save and then check the drop down under
the title window and check the options you have to save as, is it possible that an optional choice may be what you need to do ?

Are you able to find the documents that you are not able to open ?

I decided to uninstall the program and then reinstall it. Now I have a different problem. When I double click the desktop icon I get: "INVALID OS error".
I have windows xp when I try to change the compatibility it doesn't show xp it shows Windows 2000. If I change the compatibility I get a red circle with a white x in the middle and the word "name" next to it. It.s driving my crazy all day.

I can help you gather the kind of information that hopefully will be helpful to the

assistance you will get following this post and the one's to come after, . .

I assume you are referring to the Word Processor Icon on the Desk Top ?

You are saying you reinstalled the Word Processor Application, if so are you sure the requirement for installation was Windows XP ? If so where or what did you use to install this ?
Is your OS XP Home Edtion ?

Hello, Here's where I'm at. I'm using Works 8.5 on Windows XP. When this first happened my computer froze so I did a hard shut down of the computer while using Works. When I restarted the computer it went into recovery mode. I got the files I was working on back but now when I click the desktop icon I keep getting "Works Word Processor has entered recovery mode." every time I click on the icon. It seems to be stuck in recovery mode. The other problems above have been resolved because I uninstalled all of works the reinstalled it but it''s still stuck in recovery mode. When I select a document that has already been written I get 4 or five pages of blank document that I have to close in order to get to written document.

Thank You
