Are there open-source utilities out there that will take a divx or AVI file and upload it to an iPod touch?

From a quick google check it appears you need to convert at least the divx format to mp4 to be able to upload to an itouch.

I could be wrong but thats the feeling I was getting.

The touch is not compatible with playing avi files, you have to convert to mp4 then send it to itunes to install on your touch.
