Computer Freezes

My computer was working fine last night. I booted it up this morning, and it looks completely normal. One I try to click on anything with the mouse it freezes. I can see the mouse pointer is still moving but it won't click on anything. I tried to use the alt key to bring up the start menu, but that just creates a ring around the mouse pointer, and then disappears. Nothing seems to work. HELP!
