hi,,,, can you boot into safe mode,,, if so you can remove sp1 in programs and features in control panel,,, click on installed updates and it should be in there somewhere,, click on it and click remove,,,, i would only do this as a last resort though,,,,
first ,,,, as the startup recovery and system restore are not playing today, lets try a system file check to replace all lost or bad system files then try a startup repair,,,

sfc /scannow
this is the command for system file checker,,,,
1. Click the Windows button>> All Programs>> Accessories.
2. Right click the Command Prompt option and then select "Run as administrator" from the resulting menu.
3. With the Command Prompt window showing, type in: sfc /scannow [Enter]
4. You will now receive a message that states the scan will now begin. If SFC should find any rogue files that need to be replaced, you may be asked to insert your Windows CD. If the SFC scans without finding any problems, you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".
5. Close the command prompt window.

then you need to do a startup repair again

hope this helps
good luck.

Ok, FYI, I cannot go in to safe mode, it freezes while loading files. If I try using the last good configuration, well that goes right back to where it crashed when it started to reboot after installing the sp1 and freezes.

The best I have been able to do so far is press f8, go to repair computer, then I have system recovery options. I was just able to do that for the first time, which is how I found the system restore button. So that is it, any ideas? My only options under system recovery options are: startup repair, system restore, windows complete pc restore, windows memory diagnostic tool, command prompt and dell factory image restore. So unless it's something I can do from that screen, I am outta luck.

All suggestions are appreciated.

hi,,,, if your not arsed about losing all your files and folders etc,,, you can do a dell factory image restore, this will set the pc back to how it was when first started up,,, a bit like a clean install but it will do it from the recovery partition on the hdd,,, or as you have the recovery disc you can do a clean install of the os and start from scratch,,,
good luck.
