hey guys

i just got a old motherboard and a old graphics card from a friend

it seems to work fine but when in games the computer will freeze for 5-10 seconds and then play for about 5 seconds and do the 5-10 secs again and just keeps and going.this only happens when playing in the game not in the game menu

games that do this: star wars jediknight jedi out cast
gun metal( i notice when freezing gray boxs/long tringles go every where and then go away. this lasts for about quarter of a second. what do you call that ? artfacting

games that don't: Halo 1(got no idea why)

i heard putting the AGP Aperture Size higher will make games work better
so i went into the bios and there is NO settings for that :thumbsup:
so i updated the bios. still no settings for that. so i thought i try changing the bios and try to get the hidden options
but with ami tools i cant get them to backup the bios
and the bios update has no .ROM file to edit

Intel board:intel d815efv/d815epe
agp card 4x: my vivo winfast a170 ddr(geforce 4 card)

things i tried:setting the card from 4x to 2x in rivaturner
re seating the card and blowing the slow out with canned air

*this sounds like a hardware issue
so i post it in the hardware forums instead of games forums

please help

update::
when i underclock the card in rivatuner the games work fine

so am guessing that my friend has overclocked the bios part of it
or my PSU is underpowered

PSU=300Watts generic brand.

any one know the clock/memory speeds so i can change them back ? or is it that my psu is to weak?

It does sound like the graphics card is not performing well. It could be because of lack of power from the PSU or the graphics card GPU is not fast enough. Also look at how much memory your computer has. You should have at least 2 GB.
