I have a desktop computer with open PCIE x16, PCIE x1, and 2 normal PCI slots. We need to get a wireless internet card to connect to a router that is in the the next building ~75yrds away. I am currently typing on a lap top from said location with minimal issues. (only dropped one download so far, kind of worried it might happen more in incliment weather, though) The system is about 10 months old, still running xp, dual-core 2.6 ghz, 1.87GB ram.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

The GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS is very good. I have it, but you should replace the antenna with the HAWKING HAI15SC.

Do I need an external antanea? The reviews on that site seemed to consider them pretty useless.

It depends on your distance. For you, being 75 yards away, a better antenna would be needed.
