If my desktop computer is a 32-bit should my laptop be a 64-bit? Does it make any difference? Are there 32-bit laptops?

yes, there are plenty of 32-bit laptops. I have one.

I'll just add a note...32-bit and 64-bit refer to two things...the O/S and the CPU.
Many of us have 64-bit systems which run (currently) 32-bit Windows XP. Either a 32-bit or 64-bit system can run a 32-bit O/S.
That is not true of 64-bit. You must have a 64-bit system to run a 64-bit O/S (e.g. XP 64-bit, etc.).
FWIW: Windows 7 comes in 32-bit and 64-bit format, users can run whichever suits the system.
When dealing with system-to-system networking or comparison, it doesn't matter if one or both are 32-bit or 64-bit.
