BleepingComputer.com: Computer spontaneously restarts after being turned off!

I was referred here by Net_Surfer from the Hijack This/Malware Forum. With Net_Surfer's excellent help, I just finished cleaning my computer with a "nasty rootkit" infection. The reason I have posted in this forum is because my computer spontaneously restarts a few seconds after it is completely shut down. I have had to resort to unplugging my computer to prevent it from restarting.

I am running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. When my computer was infected, it would shut down and stay off. This strange restarting began after I had service pack 3 installed and has been going on for almost a year now. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this to occur?

Any help would be appreciated.
