When I started Outlook Express this morning, every email in my inbox was gone. Several folders I created were gone. There were 16 'Spam' folders that had been created with one to two emails in them from as far back as 2008.

I'm using Avast! Home free edition.

I did a system restore back to 2 days ago, but was unable to retrieve the emails.

1. What the heck happened?

and

2. Can I get these emails back?

HELP! I manage my life through these emails (addresses, phone numbers, recipes, legal matters, etc.).

First, you can check to see if they've really gone from your computer.
Should be in your Store Folder.

Do a wildcard search as follows: *.dbx

Unless you regularly empty the recycle bin, you may find backup files
for OE, (following compaction),

so you may see something like 'Sent Items.bak' and other
familiar folder names, with the .bak extension.

They can then be restored and renamed, with the .dbx extension.

I don't use System Restore...but my understanding is that it does just that, restores the system (and all system files) to an earlier date/period.

If you are using OE...those are system files (.dbx, etc.) and any emails in such files in the intervening period...would be lost, if not previously saved as separate items.

I could be wrong, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...21010423AAJOnWN

Have you tried reversing the SR?
