looks like a good deal, especially if you plan on overclocking. a bit overkill but thats what you really need. I wouldnt be surprised if that one came with a good thermal paste like arctic silver or their own variant. I think id still be tempted to replace it with my own, manufacturers are always putting to much on.

The Antec Three Hundred case is awesome and has a great design for cooling. You can put 2 120mm fans in the front and one on the side. The case comes with a rear fan and a huge top fan. I love this case. I'm using the Cooler Master V8 CPU sink and it's the "bomb"!

If this thread is still alive im looking for some pointers on fans, I was looking to do one fan infront, two up top, one in back. Maybe one at the bottom. My room is ACed during the summer and in the winter its cold cause the heating vent dose not really work. I was hoping to use the three fans for the lesser hauling since iv read they don't work that well. So maybe put them in exhaust positions and get two or three other fans for intake.

(decided to use more parts from my dell 530s, sad I every bought the thing off a friend, going to use the CPU -e2160- and RAM, maybe replace the ram later or add to it. Cause for some reason ram I have is always running at a high usage... maybe its just vista, pulled the rams info with cpuz- 332.5 3:5 5-5-15 if the HMz is 266 it can do 4-4-12, but would dropping its hmz effect trying to raise the CPU speed?) (Overclocking a e2140 http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=145328 ) The COOLER MASTER R4-L2R-20CR-GP supposedly does: RPM 2000 RPM Air Flow 90 CFM Noise Level 19 dBA Here was my first idea one R4 at the front intake, one at the bottom, leave the rear where it is and put the blue front fan and the side fan at the top. I cant speak for overclocking Ram, I dont recomend it and dont do it myself. I know the basics but not enough to do it efficiently. as far as fan usage, I have the CM-690 which you indicated in your message to me your seriously considering, and I found the included fans to work rather well for my system, and even though I dont overclock, my system produces a lot of heat due to the video card. I did supplement it however with 2 more 120 mm fans I have. I kept the intake in the front and the one on the side, the only one I moved was I took the rear exhaust fan and moved it to the bottom as an intake, but the only reason I did that was because I had a LED fan I wanted to put on the back to make a nice glowing affect. I also mounted another 120 mm fan on top directly over the CPU as an exhaust fan. Im intending on replacing the top one with 2 blue LED 120 mm fans, but thats more to just make it look pretty as their not really needed. My system temperature never goes over 31 degrees C. and CPU Maxes out at around 37-38 under full load, but its usually around 31. Its a big difference because in my old case my idle temp with either system or CPU never got below 40, in fact it was usually around 45 for both, and I had to have the video card fan on about 60% to keep it from overheating under load. Now the fan is on at 36% and the temps are still that low. its very well ventilated, I dare say with the build you have in mind, you could probably have no fans on at all and it would run under safe temperatures under normal operating circumstances, though I suggest not doing that knowing what your planning on doing with it. extra cooling can only help you computer in the long run, which is why I love this case so much it provides so much cooling on its own, plus the ability to add more cooling, even liquid cooling, and plenty of room for expansion means youll never be short.
As far as memory is concerned, you said your only getting 2 gb. bad news for ya, Vistas a performance hog. I used to only have 2 gigs in my system and Vista sucked so much of it up. its a memory hog, it loads as much of it as possible onto the Ram in order to improve performance. the downside of it is, it only really improves performance if you have a lot of it. I started with 2 gigs, and it idled at around 33%. when I opened up applications, especially big ones I found my multi tasking to be difficult, which is why I threw in 4 more gigs of ram. Unfortunatly, Vista increased how much memory it used, and it still idles at 33%-however, 33% of 6 gigs leaves more memory to multi task with then 33% of 2 gigs, so it no longer slows me down. kind of annoying, but thats windows for you. |
