...and what are you going to be doing with it?

First, I would get rid of Vista and go with 7 64-bit. Next, I would get an AM3, not an AM2 or AM2+, motherboard that is a standard ATX. Get some DDR3 memory since AM3 uses it. Buy a better power supply since the ones that come with cases aren't good. If games are to be used with this PC, a better graphics card, like a Radeon 4870 or a 5850. Finally, if you were playing hardcore games, get a quad core CPU with a clock speed over 2.8GHz.

That build is very close to the one I just built. I used an ATI Radeon HD 4890 though. The AMD Phenom II 550 is a smoker for gaming. I also went with the Asus M4A785TD-V EVo board and a Corsair 750W PSU.

You will regret it and waste your hardware. Go with XP.

Building a new PC and going with XP is just...silly. Go for Windows 7, you will like it much more than Vista.
