new guy here need help with stuff drivers,hardware

i reformatted my brothers dell computer now i cant figure out whats wrong. i think it just needs drivers but all the ones i find off of dells support page just wont open on his computer? just says "Application File" and cant open it at all... also try to add the hardware but have no drivers either so i get the yellow question marks @ install for the fallowing stuff, Video Controller,Multimedia Audio Controller,Ethernet controller,PCI Simple Communications Controller. its a dell dimension.. i dont know what other info you guys might need but i can tell you anything just about if someone could please point me in the right direction with everything! Thanks

Please post the link that you used...when attempting to install Dell drivers from their website.

You say that you reformatted the system...why and what steps did you take to do this?
From what I see, that system came with either recovery/restore disks or a recovery partition. If you had used either of those, all drivers should have been included in the files installed using either.
To install the downloaded drivers which have the .exe file extension...all you have to do is double-click on the file.
To install downloaded drivers with a .zip file extension, you need to unzip the files first...then click on the file within that says "setup" or "install".
<<just says "Application File" and cant open it at all>>
I don't know what you are trying to say.

thanks for the reply! no disks for this computer, got it along time ago and they never kept them like tards haha.... i reformatted cause he just had alot of junk on there and home version of XP. upgraded to professional btw.
i have to download the drivers from another computer and when i do that and transfer them to his and than i get the "application file"
instead of .exe or .zip..... kind of annoying.

An .exe file...is an application file.
Do you have file extensions viewable on the system?
