Printer Installition Problems

I have an DELL OMNI PLEX running XP SP3 with 1gig of memory, I just bought an HP Deskjet D1520 Printer when I installed the printer software that came with it and plugged in the printer I got a popup message that usb not recognized,so I removed all the software restarted computer and plugged in the hoping for the new hardware window to popup but all I got was USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED, popup .I am at an impasse and do not know how to proceed I have started online Collage and need this printer very bad so if their is anyone who can help me Please do. Also I have tried other printers with same out come. Some one please come to my rescue.

Go into device manager and see if there are any exclamation marks by your USB ports. Do you have any USB devices to check the ports with?

Yes their is a ? mark yellow, and it says Unknown Device and the port is fine as I have switched devices around and they all work else where. I also tried to move printer to others , but to no avail. NEXT PLEASE..Donny

Reformatting the computer is a little drastic
Uninstall and reinstall the printer and software following the manufacturer's instructions
