Hey y'all...
Just started trying out Ubuntu...
Vista dual boot...

I installed with wubi, liked it but didn't allocate enough space, so I burned the ISO image and installed with disk. I uninstalled with wubi beforehand, but think maybe I didn't do it quite right...lol

When the boot screen comes up, I have what looks like, 2 Ubuntu installations...
Ubuntu
Ubuntu
Vista

Top choice usually says "It appears you are currently running X server" and won't continue from there, if by chance it does continue, it goes into "low graphics mode".

Second choice works fine

Is it possible to get rid of this top choice?
below is a partial result of the "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.1st" from terminal...

**Hope this is enough info, if not, please advise... :trumpet:
Thanks

<<edit>>

>> I just noticed that the top choice 2.6.28-16, while the second one is 2.6.28-11.... And have looked at the startup manager, but a little leery of changing anything here just yet...but...
>> I was able to set the default boot to the 2.6.28-11 with startup manager, but would still like to remove the ...-16 from the menu...
>> So far, the startup manager has allowed me to resolve the issues with Ubuntu, but I still show the two Vista entries, the lower being recovery...Is there a way to change the text "loader" to "recovery"...? :flowers: Can I just change the text in "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.1st" without destruction...??
>> Yes, it worked

SOLVED

In startup manager I was able to resolve the issue by changing the default boot to the 2.6.28-11 OS, and unticking "show bootloader menu" (hit "Esc" now to view all the choices)

Changed "loader" to "recovery" on the lower Vista choice in "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.1st"

And finally deleted the two entries for the 2.16.28-16 OS (also in "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.1st")

**Sorry for the wasted space here y'all...
