Forget dual-core and quad-core processors: A semiconductor company promises to pack 100 cores into a processor that can be used in applications that require hefty computing punch, like video conferencing, wireless base stations and networking. By comparison, Intel’s latest chips are expected to have just eight cores.

If it doesn't support Windows... I doubt it will become truly mainstream. Linux users could probably figure a way around it, but still, thats a major problem unless just some software needs to be installed for it to run correctly.

I'm guessing this will be more popular with servers, and server farms.

No windows support?

Worst decision possible too make, I'm not being the windows fan boy, but from a business perspective, its a terrible decision.

I wouldn't say that it doesn't support Windows, rather that Windows doesn't support it.

The x86 architecture is older than I am and is hitting up against some serious barriers, the WinTel duopoly is arguably slowing advancement in technology since Windows only runs on this aged platform.

Somehow I doubt the current config is aimed at desktop PC's. Never the less I want one.

I thought 8 was to much. But now I don't think it is enough.

Are the chipsets going to be able to handle that many core reliably? The memory would have to be much better wouldn't it. I can see these easily in video cards where they are actually might take advantage of it.

Looking forward to what is going to come from this.

Well I will definately second that opinion... PicoChip...integrates 250-300 individual DSP cores onto a single die (product dependant) Thats a real time core!..unlike Windows which is a real time Chore!
