I have been using Windows Live Sync since it was called Folder Share.
I run a small business with some inside employees and also some outside employees (salespeople, do not work in the office)
Live Sync worked well for what we needed but we have outgrown its usefulness.
We can't have a file open by more than one person or it saves another version of the file and there's no reconciliation.
Also, we've been experiencing a problem lately where the shared folders become "unsynced" due to a file name longer than 255 characters. We don't name any files anywhere near 255 characters, so we aren't sure what the problem is.
Is a VPN a good alternative to this? We have to share documents such as: quotations, invoices, Purchase Orders, Blueprints, text, technical documents and photos. What's the best way for a small business of 10 people, in various locations, to have access to these types of documents? Access control is very important. Some documents need only be accessable to 2 peope, others need to be accessable to all employees.
We have a VPS running on Linux so that would be our starting point.
Thanks!
