old compaq presario - more ram?

hi,

ive got a pretty old compaq running XP professional but it is a bit slow s you might expect :thumbsup:

i upgraded the original ram to 512 but was thinking about going to 1mb

questions:
1.will the pc take 1mb ram?
2.will it actually speed it up?
3.what ram will i need?

we need to know what mother board this computer has
and i think you mean 1gb not 1mb lol

to find out motherboard model
open the case and on the mother board it should be between the cpu and the pci/agp/pci ex

a 5000 series will barely run 1GB ram because they usually only come with 2 slots.

Also, starcraft - Compaq didn't use a standard board, they used proprietary motherboards.

it seems like its got 1mb :D but yes i did mean 1gb :/ :D

bummer - so looks like i could be on for new pc then - it is probably well over due i guess :thumbsup:
